January 19, 1825, at Richmond, Maine, John S. Wilson came first to California
in 1850, but, after residing here three years, returned to the state of
his birth and was married to Miss Anna Louisa Field.
He came to California a second time in 1869, and lived in Alameda for
two years, but went East again, this time to Portland, Me., in order to
educate his sons at Bowdoin College. Mr. Wilson's third trip to California
was in 1887, when he came directly to Redlands, and has since resided
here. In Portland and in San Francisco his business was that of a wholesale
merchant. In
Redlands he has followed ranching, and owns ten acres in his home place
on Cypress avenue and fifteen in Lugonia, both tracts being set to oranges.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilson have three sons and two daughters, all of whom are
living in Redlands. The latter are Mrs. W. L. Spoor
and Mrs. F. B. Gunther. All of the sons are
in business in this city, and are represented in this edition.
