A. Stone is a native of Massachusetts, having been born in Chelsea in
l849, but spent the earlier years of his life in New Hampshire. December
31, l889, he arrived in Redlands, and was employed for two years by A.K.
Smiley, in making roads and other improvements in Canon
Crest Park. Upon leaving this employment he was appointed street superintendent
of Redlands, was twice re-appointed and holds the office at the present
time. November 2, l875, Mr. Stone was married to Mary E. Sargent,
of Newport, N.H. They have one son, Guy E. Stone,
a graduate in the class of l897 of the Union High School, and now a student
in Pomona College at Claremont. Mr. Stone is a prominent member of the
Masonic fraternity in Redlands; is Past Master of the Redlands Blue Lodge,
No. 300; High Priest of Redlands Royal Arch Chapter, No. 77, and worthy
Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
