n
the death of Edwin F. Partridge, on April 2, last, Redlands lost one of
its best citizens, a man whom, although a resident for only about a year
had endeared himself to a wide circle of friends. He was one of the rare
men whose traits of character command at once the respect and confidence
of those who come to know them. Mr. Partridge was born in Franklin, Mass.,
and came to this city at the close of a very active and successful business
in and about Philadelphia, Penn., where he was connected in various capacities
with the firm of John Mundell & Co. and the Philadelphia Fire Lloyds.
His success was won in spite of great hindrances, from the severe physical
infirmities, which finally resulted in his death at the age of sixty-four
years. He was an honored elder of the First Presbyterian Church at Germantown,
his former residence, and a trustee and teacher in the Sunday school of
the same church in Redlands. He was also a member of the Fortnightly Club
of this city. Being naturally public spirited; he entered heartily into
all plans for the improvement of the city of his adoption. His family
will remain in the home, which he had prepared for them here, and his
memory will be revered not only by those who were nearest to him, but
by the many others whose affections he had won.
