Benjamin Lane was born at Oskosh, Wis., forty years ago. He was educated
in the ward schools of that city and at Ripon College. After leaving College
he engaged in newspaper work in Milwaukee, and was for five years an editorial
writer for the Daily Evening Wisconsin. He came to California in the winter
of 1886 and with Curtis Wells and others established the Union
Bank of Redlands, of which he was cashier for five years. In 1892
Mr. Lane removed to Portland, Oregon, where he took part in organizing
the Multnomah County Bank, of which he was president for three years,
selling his interest to George W. Bates,
in 1895. After
spending a year or more in travel returned to Redlands and purchased his
present residence at the head of Center street. Mr. Lane has always had
faith in Redlands and has from the beginning retained his interest in
the Union Bank and in several buildings
in the business center of the city.
