M. Hall was born at Newton, Mass., in 1853, and was educated in the grammar
schools at Brookline and Jamaica Plain, finishing in the Eliot High School,
in the latter town. In 1877 he married Miss Fannie I. Nutter,
eldest daughter of R. J. Nutter, Esq., principal
of the grammar school at West Roxbury, which is a portion of the city
of Boston. Soon after his marriage, Mr. Hall commenced business on his
own account by opening a retail grocery store at Arlington, a town famous
in revolutionary history. After twelve years of business in that place
he came to California and spent a year at Redlands. On his return to the
East he again engaged in the grocery business as a member of the firm
of J. H. Upham & Co., of Dorchester. But he could not forget the genial
climate of Southern California and was filled with a desire to return
again to the Golden State. He accordingly came back to Redlands and purchased
a home in the Residence Tract in September, 1896. Here he enjoys life
in the daily view of magnificent scenery of mountains and valley and occupies
his time in the care of his orange grove.
