William Gregory, Jr.

illiam Gregory, Jr., is a native of England, where he was born in 1862, but was brought by his parents to Canada when 3 years of age. In 1872 the family removed to Illinois, where Mr. Gregory lived until he came to California in 1884. His first residence in this state was in Los Angeles, but he came to Redlands six years ago. His occupation for the greater part of his business life has been farming, but for the past six years he has been extensively engaged in installing plants for pumping water for irrigation, either by windmills, electricity, steam or gasoline. This method of irrigation, it may be noted, is becoming more and more important as the demand for water approaches closer to the limits of the supplies obtainable through the great irrigation systems, and individuals, where conditions are favorable, are seeking to control their own water supply by means of wells. Mr. Gregory was married in 1889 to Miss Phoebe Grossman, of Wisconsin. They have three children, all native sons of the Golden West. The family reside upon their ten-acre orange ranch, a part of the historical Tolles tract, in Lugonia.
