he birthplace of Charles Grant was Norfolk, Litchfield county, Conn., and the date of his birth May 1, 1827. When he was 7 years of age his parents moved to Ohio, where he lived for twelve years. He then went to Wisconsin for the next twelve years, and then to Rochester, Minn., for twenty-one years longer. From Minnesota Mr. Grant moved to Dakota, and finally came to California in November, 1888. At different periods his business life he was engaged in farming, in buying wheat and in mercantile business. Since coming to Redlands Mr. Grant has retired from active life, but cares for a home place of four acres on Redlands Heights. He was married in Wisconsin in 1856 to Mary E. Church, children living, a son and two daughters, the former residing in Texas and the latter in Minnesota.
