.
H. Dow is a native of Canada, where he was born at Sutton, in 1867. He
lived in that place until eighteen years of age and was educated at the
High School there. From Sutton, Mr. Dow went to Montreal, and had his
first business experience as clerk in a hotel. He next went to Manchester,
N. H., where he learned the laundry business, which he has since followed.
After two years in Montreal as foreman of a steam laundry, Mr. Dow went
to Sherbrooke, Canada, and started in the same business for himself. He
has since followed the same occupation at Colorado Springs, Col., Salt
Lake City, a point in Montana where he established a new plant for other
parties, and at Redlands. Mr. Dow came to Los Angeles in June 1892 and
to Redlands soon afterwards. He commenced business here in December 1893
and two years ago moved to the present location of this business on Orange
Street. In this city Mr. Dow took a business that was practically nothing
and established it on a permanent and profitable basis. August 16, of
the present year, realizing that his health was being impaired by the
close confinement, he sold out. Mr. Dow was married at Keene, N. H. in
February 1891 to Miss Florence MacKinnon,
a native of Scotland. They have two children.
