first marshal of the city of Redlands, William Chester Brumagin, was born
in 1859 in Montgomery county, N. Y. When he was 4 years of age the family
moved to Morrison, Ill., remaining there five years and then removed to
Ames, Iowa, where Mr. Brumagin lived, working upon the farm, until 1883.
He then struck out for the Pacific slope, settling in Oregon, and with
the exception of a short trip home, remained in that state, doing farm
work and warehousing, until he started for Redlands, which he reached
in April 1887. He first engaged with A. E. Taylor
in his pipe works, and subsequently was an employee of Cave
& Reeves in the livery business, and was with
that firm when elected marshal November 26, 1888. He was re-elected in
1890, serving four years. Mr. Brumagin then moved to the ranch on the
bench above Mentone, where he still resides. In January, 1891, he married
Miss Mary A. Dana, a daughter of G. W. Dana,
of Redlands. They have one child, Eunice May.
